Theory of Mind and Reactions to Emotional Responses in Children with Visual Impairments: A Comparison with Sighted Children

Introduction: Theory of Mind (ToM) is a social cognitive process that provides the basis for positive responses in personal interactions. Possessing ToM makes it possible to recognize and understand other people’s thoughts, beliefs, emotions. Due relationship between understanding emotions, purpose this study was compare reactions emotional (happy sad) children with low vision, severe visual impairments, sighted processes. The research's investigate relationships children's scores their expressionsMethod: consisted 20 vision (x = 58.45, sd 1.74), 19 impairments 60.36, 1.84), (x̄ 60.35, ss 1.58) who were ages 48 72 months did not have additional disabilities or developmental delays. Participants initially assessed ToM, First Order False Belief, Unexpected Location, Content tasks. In second stage, researcher played each child about minutes assess participants' responses. researchers created scenarios implemented within play dyad through which would display happy sad feelings. Children’s coded analyzed.Findings: findings showed received lower on tasks than children. Additionally, results indicated displayed increased ignorance toward researcher’s expressions compared current found children’s related responses.Discussion: Findings from suggest may reaction difficulties while participating various situations. Based results, suggestions future research early intervention practices provided.
